RECLAIMING TAMPA’S WATERFRONT

As an addition to the new Water Street project in downtown Tampa, Strategic Property Partners decided to reincarnate Channelside Bay Plaza as Sparkman Wharf. What was once a mixed-used space filled with chains and tourists is now a local hot spot for food and entertainment on Tampa's Garrison Channel.

Ownership chose Ellison Construction to reinvigorate the development. The first step was to remove part of the existing structures to allow for better access and views of Tampa's most beautiful feature - the waterfront. The new design kept the remaining sections of the demolished building, creating a public space concealed from the major roadways and preserving utility infrastructure.

A VIBRANT DESTINATION

Since opening in 2018, Sparkman Wharf has become the destination anchoring the east side of Tampa's Riverwalk. Local artists were commissioned to create vibrant murals on shipping containers that house the ten outdoor dining options. The project serves as an incubator for local chefs to experiment with new concepts in a prime location. A waterfront lawn, open-air beer garden, and flexible dining space invite locals and tourists alike to come to catch live music, play lawn games, or spend time with loved ones on the large custom swings.

Sparkman Wharf transformed Tampa's Channelside District. By adding a counterpoint to Armature Works on the Tampa Riverwalk, visitors can now spend an entire day on the water while exploring downtown Tampa’s offerings.
